In Practice
I deliver immersive and interactive lectures and tutorials with an emphasis on learning by doing.
I also feel that the fundamentals of creative thinking should be applied and available at all levels of education regardless of subject / sector.
To achieve this I employ a combination of methods that involve Design Thinking, LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® and Systems Thinking to explore complex themes and subjects in a way that engages students to a much higher degree.
LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® for enhanced learning
LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® was used to explore the concept of Total Quality Management [TQM]. Participants characterised the key areas of TQM and then placed the elements into a landscape and linked them. Emergence playing was then used to explore how a organisation would respond to it’s commercial environment in real time.
Testimonials
From recent students and colleagues
“Loved the Lego! A really interesting and immersive way to dive into concepts that can seem overwhelming at first”
“I love it when we use the lego pieces in the session, the ideas just stick to my brain and I remember everything in so much detail!”
“What surprised me most was how easy it became to share my perspective. The models acted like a bridge between my thoughts and my words, so I felt more confident contributing to discussions.
“It really helped me understand my classmates’ viewpoints more clearly, since everyone explained the meaning behind what they built everything seemed to make so much more sense.”
“I wasn’t sure what to expect when Phil introduced a session using Lego pieces but it turned out to be one of the most engaging tutorials I’ve ever been to. Instead of just talking through ideas, we actually built models to represent our thinking, so much fun!”
